Mobile signals can travel perfectly well outdoors but become significantly weaker as they pass through the materials used to construct a building. Walls, windows, roofs, cladding and insulation can all attenuate, absorb or reflect radio signals before they reach people and devices inside.
Lower-frequency mobile bands generally penetrate buildings better than higher-frequency bands. Higher-frequency services can provide valuable network capacity, but they often suffer greater losses when travelling through walls, coated glass and other building materials. This is one reason a phone can show excellent 4G or 5G coverage outside a building but poor or unusable service only a few metres inside.
Building construction has a major effect on signal ingress. Dense materials such as reinforced concrete, brick and stone can substantially reduce mobile signals, while metal cladding, foil-backed insulation and modern Low-E glazing can make the problem considerably worse.

Improving poor mobile coverage starts with understanding the building and the mobile environment around it. Cabling and equipment are installed in accordance with the system design and manufacturer requirements, whether the installation uses coaxial cable, Ethernet, fibre or a combination of technologies.
When the installation is complete, the system is commissioned and optimised for the mobile networks and coverage areas identified during the design.

After commissioning, we test the completed system and carry out a post-installation mobile signal survey using the same measurement methodology used before the system was designed.

Coverage, signal strength and quality are checked throughout the required areas and any final adjustments can be made before the project is completed.

The number and positioning of internal antennas, available donor signal, building construction and the mobile networks required all affect the final design. We regularly design systems covering tens of thousands of square feet, with signal distributed specifically to the areas where it is needed.
The most common question, yet often the most difficult to answer. That entirely depends on how many coverage units or antennas we need, how many networks you need to boost, how much cabling needs to be installed. Again, the survey is key here. We can usually give you a rough estimate for budgetary purposes, but the resulting proposal will give you a concise cost. Small systems can be fully installed for as little as £3000.
Smaller systems use coaxial cabling, similar to TV aerials, larger systems use CAT6 or above and can even utilise fibre for longer distances. Cabling is usually supplied and installed by Litenet, however we can use your structured cabling if there is spare capacity.
There doesn't have to be, but we do recommend a support package. The first year is always included in our proposal, and for subsequent years we offer a basic package and a "Pro" package. These both include remote active alarm monitoring, software and carrier frequency updates and a help desk. The Pro package gives additional priority to support calls and includes site visits and quarterly health checks.
No. The mobile signal boosting systems we install use equipment intended to meet Ofcom's licence-exemption requirements, so a compliant static indoor repeater does not normally require an individual wireless telegraphy licence from Ofcom.

A repeater cannot simply create a mobile network signal that does not exist. If the available outdoor signal is weak, a survey can determine whether it can still be used effectively or whether another approach to providing indoor mobile coverage is required. Ofcom likewise notes that repeaters work best where there is usable outdoor signal.
